Conductor Susan Dinwiddie

Susan Dinwiddie is in her 5th year as Conductor of the Athens Symphony, after having served as both Assistant and then Associate Conductor from May, 1997, to September, 2012. She began her association with the Athens Symphony playing clarinet and double bass in 1980.

Susan Dinwiddie received Bachelor of Music degree from UGA in 1974 and her Master of Music Education degree from the University of Georgia in 1979. She studied clarinet with Dr. Theodore Jahn, double bass with Mr. Eugene Eicher and conducting with Mr. Albert Ligotti.

Ms. Dinwiddie is Nationally Certified by the Music Educators National Conference and was awarded membership in Pi Kappa Lambda National Music Honor Society in 1980. In 1985 she received the Atlanta Journal-Constitution Honor Teacher Finalist Award at the Middle School Level.

Ms. Dinwiddie’s experience includes conducting middle and high school bands, middle and high school chorus and musical theatre for 31 years as well as Methodist and Presbyterian Church choirs in Walton County prior to her retirement in June 2006.
